End Sheet

The end sheet holds the book block and the book cover together and is required only for hardcover books.

The end sheet is a double leaf, with one half glued to the inside of the cover. It conceals the bands or fabric with which the book block is attached to the cover. The folded corners and edges of the material that coats the cover also disappear under it.
The second half of the end paper is glued to the book block at the hem. The end paper then lies between book cover and book block as a "loose leaf".

The paper should be somewhat stronger, so that it can withstand wear and tear, and opaque.
